Our Texas GOP Platform, and Why I Love It

As a proud member of the 2016 Texas GOP Platform Committee, I would like to address the drumbeat, brought up by #TheAmazingDocGreene, that many in the RPT would like to shorten our platform.

Our system of bottom-up, grassroots involvement enables anyone who votes in our primary to attend his or her precinct convention and submit a resolution (with 3 copies).

That resolution then is reviewed at the Senatorial District level, and if it passes muster, goes on to the state platform committee.

This system gives a voice to everyone in the base of the party, rather than a top-down, elitist mentality of “leadership knows best.”

That is what I love about the Republican Party of Texas, and why the system that we have is so great.

If you want brevity, simply refer to the Ten Principles enumerated following the preamble. That is the meat of the platform. The rest is always well and thoroughly debated and to eliminate it would be to eliminate the participation of our 9000+ delegates, comprising the largest political convention in the world.

So, in my opinion, the grassroots rules.

PRINCIPLES
We, the 2016 Republican Party of Texas, believe in this platform and expect our elected leaders to uphold these truths through acknowledgment and action. We believe in:

“The laws of nature and nature’s God” and we support the strict adherence to the original language and intent of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitutions of the United States and of Texas.
The sanctity of innocent human life, created in the image of God, which should be protected from fertilization to natural death.
Preserving American and Texas sovereignty and freedom.
Limiting government power to those items enumerated in the United States and Texas Constitutions.
Personal accountability and responsibility.
Self-sufficient families, founded on the traditional marriage of a natural man and a natural woman.
Having an educated population, with parents having the freedom of choice for the education of their children.
The inalienable right of all people to defend themselves and their property.
A free enterprise society unencumbered by government interference or subsidies.
Honoring all of those that serve and protect our freedom.
