Proposed Legislation would Ban Purchase of Body Armor

On July 31 Democrat Representative Mike Honda (D-CA-17) introduced H.R. 5344 entitled The
Responsible Body Armor Possession Act. In the text of the bill it states that the intent is “to prohibit the purchase, ownership, or possession of enhanced body armor by civilians.”

According to Rep. Honda, “access to military-grade body armor emboldens criminals and mass shooters to act.” He also stated that, “This bill will keep military body armor out of the wrong hands.”

Just as the anti-2nd Amendment activists want to remove the right of law-abiding citizens to purchase firearms, this bill would prohibit law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves from criminals who will no doubt acquire body armor whether it is illegal or not.

A violation of this proposed law would carry criminal penalties, including up to ten years in prison. Other defensive protective equipment, such as bulletproof backpacks for school children, would fall under this law and therefore also be banned.

Please contact your Congressman and express your opinion regarding the ability of Americans to defend themselves. The right to protect oneself from criminal attacks by purchasing a purely defensive product should not be infringed.
