True to Form, BIrdwell Victory Heroic

War Hero Brian Birdwell of Granbury won the special election runoff for Senate District 22 on Tuesday, winning 8 out of 10 counties with 58% of the vote. Senator-Elect Birdwell will fill the unexpired term of former State Senator Kip Averitt.

Lieutenant Colonel (ret.) Birdwell, a Gulf War veteran who served in Desert Storm, was badly burned on September 11, 2001, during the terrorist attack on the Pentagon. Birdwell was in his second-floor office at the Pentagon on 9/11 when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed nearby. Brian was engulfed in flames causing severe burns over 60% of his body. He has undergone multiple surgeries and skin grafts, and his story of physical and spiritual healing has inspired people across the nation. Brian and his wife Mel have since launched a non-profit organization, Face the Fire Ministries, which supports critical burn victims as well as wounded servicemen and women. War Hero Birdwell is a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Legion of Merit Award recipient.
